Melina Back to the WWE?

With all the WWE returns rumored, two females are in the "maybe" list.
Lisa Marie Varon (Victoria) and Melina Perez.
You never know but I think that they would make great additions to the WWE Diva roster.
In case you forgot about Melina...here are some pictures from back in the day.....

Now former WWE Diva Melina really could wrestle.
She was one of the best female wrestlers to ever come through Jesse Hernandez's School of Hard Knocks in San Bernardino, California.
Though she won beauty pageants before she started wrestling, she was far more than just a pretty face.

As you all probably already know by now, WWE Diva Melina was released from her contract with WWE on August 5, 2011.
Not being one to just sit around, Melina is already schedualed to take on another former WWE Diva Serena Deeb, on November 19th at the Womens' Superstars Unleashed iPPV at the ACE Arena in Union City, NJ.

And even though she isn't working for the WWE anymore, she still got involved in the mini firestorm on Twitter when WWE.com posted an article bashing the Divas titled "Divas of Doom...Or Salvation?"

And what's in the future for Melina?
Well of course everyone is expecting a TNA run, with Melina joining Brooke Tessmacher (Brooke Adams), Jackie Moore, Mickie James Mickie James, Tara (Victoria/Lisa Marie Varon) and Winter (Katarina Waters) and becoming one of the TNA Knockouts.
Or maybe she will suprise everyone and head to ROH

Is Melina Changing?

With everyone paying so much attention to Kharma, some of the other Divas have kinda slipped out of sight.
Case in point...Melina.
Melina has held the WWE Divas Championship twice and the WWE Women's Championship three times making "The A–List Diva" a five time (insert Booker T repeat here) champion.
But she hasnt been on Monday Night Raw in what, almost three months?
Oh sure she's shown up on WWE Superstars (in a losing effort against Beth Phoenix), but where's the WWE love?
We know there was some heat between Trish and Melina about her boyfriend John Morrison's match at Wrestlemania.
Melina seemed to feel that she should have been in the match with John, not Trish.
But the WWE gets over things like that right?
(Uh-huh)
Besides, WrestleMania XXVII was back on April 3rd and Melina hasnt been on Raw since January 24th (I think), and that was way before WrestleMania.



On a recent live chat over at her official site (http://realmelina.com/) she said...
"I'M ACTUALLY THINKING OF CHANGING MY LOOK ALL TOGETHER. MAYBE IT WILL MAKE PEOPLE SAD BUT I AM AT A POINT WHERE I NEED A DRAMATIC CHANGE."
Evidently Melina's cap lock is stuck or she likes to shout, but we get the point.

What kind of change is she looking for?
Going back to face again?
I hope not.
I think Melina plays a great heel.
If the WWE would give her a chance to play at all that is.

Natalya versus Melina - Monday Night Raw

On Monday Night Raw we had two of the WWE's most talented Divas in the ring, and it was also a face versus a face.
Natalya took on Melina in a non title bout, and after a back and forth match, Natalya won with the Sharpshooter.
The match was over in about two minutes, so there isnt a lot to talk about except for Melina's really cool looking submission hold that looks like a leg full nelson.

Of course after the match LayCool (who had been sitting at the announce table) attacked Natalya.
Funny thing is...Melina just walked away.
So did she see the attack or not since she was over by the stage?

I love Melina, but I love her more as a heel.
What I would really LOVE to see is Melina do a "Stone Cold" deal with her taking out faces and heels.
A loner with no friends as she goes after the title.
And no, I do not wanna see her ally with LayCool, they would be just as big a target to her as anyone else.

Since Melina seems to be so good at submission moves, maybe they could revive the old storyline they had with Gail Kim and make Melina a "submission specialist".

The Top Ten Female Wrestlers for September 2010

I haven't done a Top Ten female wrestlers list here in awhile, so I thought I'd do a ten best of the best here on this blog.
Really, it's kind of interesting to me what womens wrestlers are popular because it's not always who you'd think.
And it also shows one wrestling promotion's pretty much total domination of the ranks.
Guess which one.


Maryse, WWE.com

1. Maryse
Yes she is hands down the winner.
The absolutely most searched for lady here.
And it appears I'm not the only one that thinks she is being totally misused at the moment by the WWE, check out Renee Gerber's article over at Bleacher Report.

2. Gail Kim
Another talented young lady that’s being sadly underused by the WWE.
Former WWE Womens's Champ and Former TNA Knockout Champ.
And what is she doing now?

3. Candice Michelle
Not even a Diva anymore, but strong enough to show up at number 3.

4. Mickie James
Again, another former WWE Diva in at number 4.
Now she's a TNA Knockout.
But for how long....?

5. Melina
Really, the woman that should have the WWE Unified Divas Championship belt around her waist.
At least I think so.

6. Layla
Probably one of the most beautiful Divas out of the whole bunch.
And one half of The Beautiful...I mean Lay-Cool.

7. Christy Hemme
Former TNA Knockout and current backstage interviewer for TNA.

8. Michelle McCool
PWI's Female Wrestler of the year and the WWE Unified Divas Champion.
And yes a lot of people think that's because she's "Mrs. Undertaker".

9. Torrie Wilson
Former WWE Diva for what, over 2 years now?
But still in at number nine.

10. Beth Phoenix
And finally one of the best women that the WWE has on the roster.
I really cannot wait to see her get back in the ring.

Melina Versus Alicia Fox at Summer Slam

You probably already know that the SummerSlam WWE ppv is August 15, 2010 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
Among the featured wrestling matches will be a Divas match for the WWE Divas Championship between Melina (the challenger) and Alicia Fox (the champion).
This will be the first time this title has been defended at Summer Slam.

Maybe the WWE will end this farce and put the belt back into the hands of an actual wrestler.
The only thing I have against this match is the lack of build up.
Melina returned to the WWE on August 2nd on RAW, jumped Alicia and now she already has a title shot.
Less than two weeks build up?
I know Melina is a fan favorite, and she has the skills, mike and in ring.
But shouldn’t they have aimed for a bit more of a build up?
I guess I am just spoiled from "back in the day" when feuds had months of build up.

UPDATE:
Well the WWE did give Melina the WWE Diva's belt as she beat Alicia Fox at last night's SummerSlam.
Best part of the match to me:
It looks like Melina injures her knee early in the match...so Alicia goes to work on her arm.
Brilliant!

And afterwards, Team Lay-Cool interrupted Melina's victory celebration with a one sided beat down.

Michelle McCool, The Best in 2009?

Pro Wrestling Illustrated (PWI) is getting ready to release their annual "PWI Female 50" list, that ranks the top 50 female wrestlers in wrestling promotions in North America.
Well last year everyone was pretty much in agreement (I think) that Mickie James deserved the number one slot.
But this year number one has been leaked before the list comes out (on September 7th) and it's already started some controversy.

This years number one is none other than Michelle McCool.
Even PWI admits it's a questionable decision because of her relationship with The Undertaker (they got married in June if you hadn't heard), her stealing the Faithbreaker from AJ Styles (although AJ himself said he was flattered she took the move), Team Lay-Cool being a rip off of The Beautiful People and generally Michelle's rumored arrogant and condescending attitude.

But according to PWI, Michelle was the first woman in WWE history to hold both the WWE Divas and the WWE Women's championships, in 2009, she scored pin fall victories over Melina, Gail Kim, and Mickie James, from July 1, 2009, through June 30, 2010, she held (and co-held) the WWE Women’s championship for 325 of 365 days.

You know....I thought the PWI list was about talent.
All of Michelle's accomplishments they list are because the writers wrote that.
If the writers wanted it, Tiffany could pin Melina, Gail and Beth Phoenix all at once, and hold both the Divas and Womens titles at the same time.
She could go on a tear like Goldberg and go undefeated for a year.

Now don't think I am totally downing Michelle here, she's come a long way since the 2004 WWE Diva Search.

But I'd like to see PWI rank their wrestlers because of in-ring ability, mike skills etc.

Not because of who they know.

Wrestling News and Rumors - Victoria/Tara, Jazz, Mickie James and More

Former WWE Diva, and maybe soon to be former TNA Knockout Lisa Marie Varon (Tara/Victoria) will be appearing at the Philadelphia Comic Con on June 11-13 at the Philadelphia Convention Center.
Also appearing there (among the ton of comic book and science fiction stars) will be another former WWE Diva, Jazz (Carlene Begnaud).

And in more convention news, former WWE Diva Mickie James will be appearing at K&S's "Heat Wave" event taking place on July 10th at the Holiday Inn in Carteret, New Jersey.

By the way, with both Melina and Beth Phoenix out with torn ACLs maybe letting Mickie James go wasn't such a good idea.
But hey, she didn't get along with Batista so she had to go right?

It may seem like most of the news here is about "former WWE Divas", but with the TNA women's division going like it is, "former TNA Knockout" may be being heard more and more in the future.
Tara leaving seems to be pretty much a given now.
If she'll go back to WWE or go ahead with MMA, I don't know.
Sarita and Taylor Wilde both are apparently WWE bound now as well.
Awesome Kong is already gone.
ODB signed a signed a multi-year deal with TNA in November of 2009, but she really doesn't seem too happy there.
And you have both Angelina Love and Daffney on the inactive roster due to injuries.

I had such high hopes for the TNA Knockout division once.....

Former WWE Divas Candice Michelle and Lilian Garcia

Lilian Garcia has a new Facebook Fan Page up.
On the page there are of course pictures, and also a Music Player where you can listen to Lilian's music.

As you know, Candice Michelle is expecting her first child.
The last I heard he (or she) is due in May.
And at this weeks SmackDown taping at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Candice showed up to see some old friends.

WWE Wrestling - Melina versus Alicia Fox

Last night on WWE Monday Night Raw, they had a Diva's Championship match with the champion Melina defending her title against Alicia Fox.
I still cannot figure out why in the world Fox is getting such a push, but how can I not like a match that Judah Friedlander from "30 Rock" is involved in?
Well Frank...I mean Judah comes out and says that he will be the special guest announcer and he introduces Melina and Alicia.
Alicia jumps on Judah (not literally) and tells him to announce her as the next Diva Champion.
Judah says he cant do that, he only came to Raw for two reasons....
One, to see Melina's entrance, and two, to announce that the Diva's Championship match is now a lumberjill match.
The Divas all come out and surround the ring.
The match takes place and I'm wondering why we aren't watching Melina and a real contender going at it rather than this.
(wasn't Alicia almost fired from OVW for showing up for work intoxicated once? Why yes she was.)

But anyway Melina pulls out the victory (thank goodness) which leads to an all out brwal and "Team Mickie" coming out on top.

WWE Night of Champions Results

Still Champion.....

...New Champion.

In female wrestling action tonight at the WWE Night of Champions.....

In the WWE Women's Championship Match, Michelle McCool defeated Melina to retain her WWE Women's Championship.

And in the WWE Divas Championship Match, Mickie James defeated the champion Maryse to become the new WWE Divas Champion.
This makes Mickie the third WWE Divas Champion behind Maryse and Michelle McCool.

WWE Diva News: New Diva, And What's Up With Vince?

For some reason the WWE has signed British body-double (?) Rachael Carr.

Carr has doubled for stars like Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Kylie Minogue.

Couldn't the WWE find anymore female wrestlers in the Indy promotions?
I mean they just signed Miss April, and from what I've seen, that looked like a good call.
Is Rachael going to be a backstage interviewer?
Valet?

TheSun.co.uk is reporting that Vince McMahon is currently "down" on the Divas division.
(Like we couldn't guess that from the Wrestlemania debacle)
In the last six pay-per views, there have only been two Diva-related matches, and there has only been one Diva-related title defense out of the last eight WWE PPV's .
What's Vince so upset about?
Mickie James, Maryse, Michelle McCool and Melina have all been turning in great ring performances I thought.
Of course I have only been watching wrestling for about 40 years so what do I know?

Yeah there are some slip ups and misses occasionally.
But all the WWE Superstars do that.
We may not have our current Trish Stratus or Lita yet, but unless you get the ladies in the ring and have them work, we won't have one.

The WWE has female wrestlers with solid wrestling backgrounds like Beth Phoenix, Mickie, Melina and believe it or not, Jillian Hall.
And a lot of the ladies I discounted at first like Michelle and Maryse are REALLY working at getting better.
And they are.

I'm gonna beat a dead horse here I know, but look at this.....

Beth Phoenix: Wrestled on the Elmira, New York Notre Dame High School scholastic wrestling team, first female varsity wrestler in her high school's history, North-East freestyle women's champion (72 kg weight class) in 1999, women's champion (72 kg weight class) at the New York State Fair Tournament in 1999, member of USA Wrestling, a freestyle wrestling association.

Jillian Hall: Debuted in 1998 as Macaela Mercedes on the independent circuit after being trained by Finlay. She's been in pro wrestling for 11 years!

Mickie James: Debuted on the independent circuit in 1999, trained at a professional wrestling school in the Washington, D.C. area, the Funking Conservatory (Dory Funk, Jr.'s school), the Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) dojo and attended camps run by Ricky Morton and Bobby Eaton.

Gail Kim: Debuted in 2000 after training at Ron Hutchinson's "School of Pro Wrestling", Rob Etchevarria's "Squared Circle Pro Wrestling Gym" and also at the Funking Conservatory.

Melina: Debuted in April 2002 after training at Jesse Hernandez's School of Hard Knocks and the Empire Wrestling Federation (EWF) officials said that she had the most natural ability of any woman who came through their school.

These ladies are not fly by night athletes.

Gail Kim to Return at Wrestlemania 25 ?

Well the WWE Wrestlemania 25 women's wrestling event may be a disappointment to some.
A lot of fans were looking forward to at least one good singles match, but they are having a 25 Diva Battle Royal.
How can they have a 25 Diva Battle Royal?
The WWE doesn't even have 25 Divas do they?
Nope, but they are calling up the reserves.
This could be as much fun for the female wrestling fans as a Legends Battle Royal

The list goes like this, but I already see one possible exception.

We didn't really get a womens match last night on WWE Raw.
We got a mixed tag team with Cryme Tyme and Melina against Glamarella and Dolph Ziggler.
Glamarella?
Really?
Are they still gonna go with that?
Anyway, Cryme Tyme and Melina won.


On Natalya's blog at wwe.com, she mentioned both Beth Phoenix and Trish Stratus....

" On another note, many of you have asked me how I feel about Trish Stratus stating she is interested in taking on myself or the Glamazon at WrestleMania. There is no doubt that facing Trish would be nothing short of amazing. Two Canadian women, fighting for everything we believe in, as true athletes would."

"I am very curious what will happen this year at Mania for the Diva's. Like Trish, I will be keeping my eye on the Glamazon, too...and knowing that the best is yet to come. And on the Victoria front ( I know, she's not wrestling anymore), she's going full steam ahead it looks like with her MMA training.
Hey, if Brock Lesnar can do it, why not Victoria?

Female Professional Wrestling News - WWE and NWA

Last night on WWE Raw, Beth Phoenix faced Melina in a match for the WWE Women's Wrestling Championship.
Fairly good match, but of course at the end Santino and Rosa Mendes tried to interfere.
But, Shades of Stone Cold, the other face divas run out and make the save, allowing Melina to roll up Beth for the pin fall.

You know it's kind of odd that they did have a Women's Championship match at No Way Out, but it was a "dark match".
Melina beat Beth Phoenix there as well.

The NWA (remember them?) has had some female wrestling action.
On their February 14 card at the Charlotte Coliseum, Baby Doll saw action.
Yes Baby Doll!
She actually beat Barbarian for the NWA Mid-Atlantic Heritage Title!

And Awesome Kong faced MsChif. MsChif was accompanied by Daffney...I think that is the greatest pairing in the world right now, Daffney and MsChif.
Anyway, Kong was disqualified, so MsChif hangs onto the NWA Women’s World Championship.

And finally Al Snow and Cynthia "Bobcat" Lynch were married last week.
Among the lady wrestling stars that attended were April Hunter, Serena Deeb, Katie Lea Burchill, Lollipop and the very pregnant "Queen Of Extreme" Francine.

WWE Women's Championship, Royal Rumble Results

At the WWE Royal Rumble pay per view tonight, Melina became the new WWE Women's Wrestling Champion.
And I put up my crystal ball because Rosa Mendes didn't interfere.
Maybe we were thrown a swerve and Rosa is not what she seems.....

Anyway, this is Melina's third reign.
Lets see how long it lasts.

Melina, Beth Phoenix and Victoria's SmackDown! Send Off

Last night on WWE Monday Night Raw they actually had two womens matches.
Real ones for the most part.
But most of it was build up for the Melina / Beth Phoenix match this Sunday at the WWE Royal Rumble.

Michelle McCool said a lot of nice things about Victoria on her WWE blog.

And speaking of Victoria, you can see her farewell speech that wasn't aired Friday night on SmackDown! on WWE.Com
It's pretty sad watching her with tears in her eyes hugging Taz and JR goodbye, shaking hands with the fans and blowing kisses.
She even did the old "Psycho" move before she exited.

And speaking of JR, over at his blog JRsBarBQ.com.,he seems as upset as I am at the send off the WWE gave Victoria.
After all the time she spent with the WWE. I expected something more, and I'm glad to see Good Old JR agrees with me on that.

The WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 Divas

I thought including Ashley was unusual, but maybe at the time the game was being developed she was still on the roster.
Or maybe she was included because she's still very popular.
And who knows, one day we may get a WWE game that has a "Women's Wrestling Legends" section.
I would think though that it would be a bit too soon to include Moolah and Sherri Martel.
But imagine having Mad Maxine, Wendi Richter, Debbie Combs, Leilani Kai, Missy Hyatt, Rockin' Robin, Heidi Lee Morgan, Alundra Blayze, Tammy Lynn Sytch, Luna Vachon and Tori as unlockable characters.
But I guess that would be a whole different game huh?
