Yes I know that former WWE Diva Candice Michelle started out as a model.
And although she was not even a finalist in the 2004 WWE Diva Search that she was in, the WWE hired her anyway.
Though at first Candice was just eye candy, she really put her heart into wrestling.
She was trained by Dave Finlay, Arn Anderson, Trish Stratus, John Cena and CM Punk.
As a result of the dedication, Candice defeated Melina at Vengeance, to become the first ever WWE Diva Search contestant to win the Women's Title.
She held the title for 105 days before losing it to Beth Phoenix.
She even won the Pro Wrestling Illustrated Most Improved Wrestler of the Year and PWI Woman of the Year in 2007.
The beautiful women of wrestling. The WWE Divas and TNA Knockouts past, present and future that have graced the squared circle. Female wrestling at it's best with Charlotte, Becky, Asuka, Carmella, Nikki and all the other women wrestlers of the WWE, TNA and FCW.

Snooki at WrestleMania...Yay
I was gonna complain about the 6-person mixed tag team match at WrestleMania XXVII with Trish Stratus, the Jersey Shore's Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and John Morrison taking on Dolph Ziggler and LayCool.
But I think that Renee Gerber over at bleacher report says all that needs to be said about that.
You can read that article here.
All I can say is that Snooki being involved in the only "Divas match" at WrestleMania makes me about as happy as when K-Fed pinned Cena on Raw that night.
And I have said that before.
How long has it been since the WWE had a real female wrestling match at a WrestleMania?
Last year at WrestleMania XXVI we had the 10-Diva tag team match with Michelle McCool, Vickie Guerrero, Alicia Fox, Layla and Maryse defeating Beth Phoenix, Kelly Kelly, Mickie James, Gail Kim and Eve Torres.
Snooki's first appearance at ...wait...that's Santina...sorry.
The year before that at WrestleMania XXV we had the 25-Diva battle royal for the Miss WrestleMania Crown that "Santina Marella" won.
At WrestleMania XXIV we had the BunnyMania Lumberjack match with Beth Phoenix and Melina (again with Santino Marella) beating Maria and Ashley.
At WrestleMania 23 we had another Lumberjill match for the WWE Women's Championship with Melina beating Ashley.
WrestleMania 22 was the Pillow Fight between Candice Michelle and Torrie Wilson which Torrie won.
Before that at WrestleMania 21 in 2005, we had what could really be the last legitamate singles match at WrestleMania for the WWE Women's Championship when Trish Stratus beat Christy Hemme (with Lita).
But I think the last real singles match was back in 2004, when Victoria beat Molly Holly.
Even though the match had a "hair versus hair" gimmick, it was an actual match.
No Lumberjills, no pillows, no one in the corner, a man didn't win the match etc.
So I guess I shouldn't expect anything from the WWE this year huh?
I just keep hoping.

WWE Diva Torrie Wilson and Diva Trim
You probably know that before former WWE Diva Torrie Wilson was...well a WWE Diva, she was a fitness competitor.
She placed third in the very first fitness competition she entered and went on to win the Miss Galaxy competition in 1998.
And also in 1998, Torrie took part in the Women's Tri-Fitness Championships, and placing first in the Grace and Physique round, also doing very well in the Fitness Routine and Obstacle Course.
Of course in 1999, she showed up on World Championship Wrestling (WCW) as Samantha, then switched to her real name.
And then in 2001 she went to the WWE as part of the Invasion storyline.
But the reason I mentioned the fitness thing is that Torrie has now released a new supplemental fat burner targeted towards women and it's called Diva Trim.
And I think Torrie is her own best advertisement because she still looks amazing.
You can check out Diva Trim at the website here http://divatrim.net./
I mean c'mon...look at her!
I wonder if the possible side effects include hanging out with Victoria and Candice Michelle, carrying small dogs and hitting people with chairs?

The Top Ten Female Wrestlers for September 2010
I haven't done a Top Ten female wrestlers list here in awhile, so I thought I'd do a ten best of the best here on this blog.
Really, it's kind of interesting to me what womens wrestlers are popular because it's not always who you'd think.
And it also shows one wrestling promotion's pretty much total domination of the ranks.
Guess which one.

Maryse, WWE.com
1. Maryse
Yes she is hands down the winner.
The absolutely most searched for lady here.
And it appears I'm not the only one that thinks she is being totally misused at the moment by the WWE, check out Renee Gerber's article over at Bleacher Report.
2. Gail Kim
Another talented young lady that’s being sadly underused by the WWE.
Former WWE Womens's Champ and Former TNA Knockout Champ.
And what is she doing now?
3. Candice Michelle
Not even a Diva anymore, but strong enough to show up at number 3.
4. Mickie James
Again, another former WWE Diva in at number 4.
Now she's a TNA Knockout.
But for how long....?
5. Melina
Really, the woman that should have the WWE Unified Divas Championship belt around her waist.
At least I think so.
6. Layla
Probably one of the most beautiful Divas out of the whole bunch.
And one half of The Beautiful...I mean Lay-Cool.
7. Christy Hemme
Former TNA Knockout and current backstage interviewer for TNA.
8. Michelle McCool
PWI's Female Wrestler of the year and the WWE Unified Divas Champion.
And yes a lot of people think that's because she's "Mrs. Undertaker".
9. Torrie Wilson
Former WWE Diva for what, over 2 years now?
But still in at number nine.
10. Beth Phoenix
And finally one of the best women that the WWE has on the roster.
I really cannot wait to see her get back in the ring.
Honorable Mention:
Trish Stratus
Victoria (Tara didn't rank, it was Victoria everyone wanted to see)
Velvet Sky
Maria
Chyna

Former WWE Divas Candice Michelle and Lilian Garcia
Lilian Garcia has a new Facebook Fan Page up.On the page there are of course pictures, and also a Music Player where you can listen to Lilian's music.
The last I heard he (or she) is due in May.
And at this weeks SmackDown taping at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Candice showed up to see some old friends.
She posted a picture of her and Melina on her Twitter account that you can see here

Female Wrestling News - Wendi Richter, Jillian Hall, Michelle McCool, Angelina Love , Trina Michaels and More
We start off today with a blast from the past.
Yesterday (the 6th) was former WWF female wrestler and WWF Women's Champion, Wendi Richter's Birthday.
So Happy (late) Birthday Wendi!
As you may recall, Wendi declined to participate at WrestleMania XXV this year.
Good for her.
And yesterday was WWE Diva Jillian Hall's Birthday as well.
So Happy (late again) Birthday Jillian!
WWE Women's Champion Michelle McCool returned to the ring at the SmackDown/ECW live event in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
She defeated Melina to retain the title.
You can see a video of the end of the match here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRjLDFhcRAg
Since Angelina Love appears to be gone from TNA (sigh), her possible replacement in "The Beautiful People" may be indy valet Trina Michaels.
Trina is good friends with Mick Foley and has had some TNA allusions in the past.
You can check out her MySpace page here:
http://www.myspace.com/katrina113
Former (?) TNA Knockout Jenna Morasca recently posted on her MySpace page...
My 1st official statement regarding TNA and myself "There are great inconsistencies out there regarding my relationship with TNA. I fully intend to clear them up and tell my side of the story after the holiday weekend"
They say she left TNA on September third when her contract expired, but I thought she was just on a leave of absence.
But in checking the TNA website, her profile has been pulled.
I'm sure you have heard all the rumors about Candice Michelle working for TNA.
Candice isn't that good of an in-ring performer, but her name alone will draw attention to the TNA brand.
She still gets over a million hits a month on Google searches.

Female Wrestling: Candice Michelle, Lilian Garcia, Rena Mero and More
August 8th was Sable's (Rena Mero Lesnar) birthday.
So Happy (Late) Birthday Sable!
She turned 42 believe it or not.
The Sun UK has an article up called "Please Don't Leave Us Lilian!" complete with slideshow.
Joshi Puroresu star and now TNA Knockout Ayako Hamada will make her wrestling debut with TNA after the Hard Justice PPV.
The two men that booked the Knockout matches at TNA, Dutch Mantel and Savio Vega, were released from the company last week, and that seems to be making some of the Knockouts a little nervous.
Since the Knockouts are more technically sound than the Diva's, I'd hate to see this release mean a downhill slide for the women's wrestling division on TNA.
According to Wrestling Inc, Sharmell is really loved by the Knockouts backstage.
Jenna Morasca not so much.
Now that Candice Michelle is out of the WWE, is it possible we may see her turn up in TNA?
Of course thats the standard question everyone asked when a wrestler is released by the WWE.
Candice was working hard on her in ring skills, but she's not really up to Knockout level.
But maybe Candice as a manager or valet wouldnt be a bad idea.

WWE Diva News and Rumors
Last night on WWE Raw, Mickie James took on Maryse in a non title bout.
Mickie got the win with a DDT.
In case you missed the match, here it is...

Evidently the WWE is not too happy with Tiffany being the GM of ECW.
There is talk of maybe putting Tommy Dreamer in the role.

Don't expect to see Candice Michelle on SmackDown anytime soon.
According to her Twitter account " In hawaii with family! Its beautiful here! Went swimming w sharks today and doing therapy in the sunshine!"
Think about it....having to do ankle theraphy isnt exactly great, but getting to do it in Hawaii?
Awesome.

The WWE has signed Indy wrestler Miss April (April Jeanette) to a developmental contract.
She had been working with National Wrestling Superstars and Women Superstars Unleashed.

WWE Diva Wrestling News and Rumors
Trish is not too impressed with the WWE at the moment
A lot of WWE Diva wrestling news and rumors this time......
I'm not the only one complaining about the sorry 25 Diva Battle Royal at Wrestlemania 25.
Evidently backstage, the WWE Divas felt the same way.
Can you blame them?
And to point out even further what a joke the Diva's " Main Event" was, look at this excerpt from an interview with Trish Stratus by the Times and Transcript...
" Since retiring, Trish has returned to TV the odd time for special occasions, but she recently turned down an offer to appear on the biggest show of the year, Wrestlemania, when it was clear WWE didn't have much planned for the divas battle royal.
She says the current state of WWE's women's division leaves a lot to be desired. Storylines, character development and in-ring action aren't really the focus."
You can read the full interview here:
http://timestranscript.canadaeast.com/front/article/640688
The movie Gail Kim is in, "Royal Kill", got a limited release, and from what I understand, the film is to be avoided big time.
I haven't seen a good review of the movie yet.
I guess that's the reason it was made in 2005 and just released now.
BTW, Gail isn't the only female wrestler in the movie, Molly Holly is in it as well.
The trailer is kinda cool though, they make Gail look almost like a Terminator.
The thing about it is, the production company seems to be embracing just how awful it is and is pushing it as a cult movie.
Let's see if that works.
WWE Diva Candice Michelle is about 3 weeks away from returning to the ring full-time from her ankle injury.
And the rumor is that she wants to go to SmackDown! when she comes back.
According to former WWE Diva Victoria's MySpace blog, she is NOT going to TNA, she was just talking to the president and chairwoman of TNA Dixie Carter at a MMA event.
Victoria says she is firmly focused on her MMA career.
Hmmm...we've been swerved before.
And rumors continue that former WWE Diva Ashley Massaro may be returning to the WWE.
Again the rumor seems to be coming from Ashley herself, this time via her Twitter account.
The funny thing is...I cant find her Twitter account.....
And finally, WWE Diva Rosa Mendez is dating UFC fighter Dean Lister.
If you follow MMA, you may recognize him as the submission-grappling coach for Tito Ortiz's team on "The Ultimate Fighter" reality show.

Gail Kim to Return at Wrestlemania 25 ?
Well the WWE Wrestlemania 25 women's wrestling event may be a disappointment to some.
A lot of fans were looking forward to at least one good singles match, but they are having a 25 Diva Battle Royal.
How can they have a 25 Diva Battle Royal?
The WWE doesn't even have 25 Divas do they?
Nope, but they are calling up the reserves.
This could be as much fun for the female wrestling fans as a Legends Battle Royal
The list goes like this, but I already see one possible exception.
1. Beth Phoenix
2. Candice Michelle (recently injured her ankle, expected to be out till April, will she make it?)
3. Jillian Hall
4. Kelly Kelly
5. Layla
6. Melina
7. Mickie James
8. Rosa Mendes
9. Brie Bella
10. Eve
11. Maria
12. Maryse
13. Michelle McCool
14. Nikki Bella
15. Alicia Fox
16. Katie Lea Burchill
17. Natalya
18. Tiffany
Now the other participants are up in the air, but rumors include.....
Trish Stratus
Lita
Torrie Wilson
Victoria
Jackie Gayda (Jackie Gayda-Haas)
And the return of Gail Kim.
Of course this is the perfect time to bring Gail back in, have her win the match and be declared the new number one challenger.
Remember the first battle royal Gail was in?
I have to admit, I think Mr.McMahon came up with a good idea this time.
This will give all the Divas some Wrestlemania time.

WWE Diva Wrestling Posters
I found these posters at PosterGods.com
It kinda struck me as strange that they had only 3 WWE Diva posters there and two of them are women that no longer wrestle for WWE.
They have a Candice Michelle.
Still wrestling, but not very much exposure.
A Torrie Wilson.
Not wrestling anymore, but running a successful clothing line.
And she is keeping her contact with her wrestling fans by making appearances.
Her next one being Booker T's "Legends of Wrestling" convention on Friday, April 3.

And an Ashley Massaro.
Although there is that rumor that Ashley may actually come back to the WWE.
WWE's head television producer Kevin Dunn used to be very big on Ashley.
One reason being that she was a WWE Diva Search winner and Kevin was the main person behind the Diva Search concept.
He was instrumental in getting her on the Survivor: China show, and possibly her "Smallville" gig.
But when Ashley got back from the Survivor show, Ashley didn't get the pop from the fans that she used to.
Some put that down to her change in appearance.
Also, some people say that she helped in the downfall of Paul London in the WWE.
Of course Ashley dated both Paul and Matt Hardy when she was in the WWE, and that might have something to do with the bad blood between Matt and Paul now.
All this attention to past Divas goes back to what I've mentioned a few times here and on my other women's wrestling blog, that sometimes the most popular ladies aren't even actively wrestling anymore.
Trish Stratus, Lita and Stacy Keibler are still very popular with fans, even after not actively competing for awhile.

WWE Diva Layla
WWE Diva Layla hasn't really done much lately except hang around William Regal.
And did they drop the "Layla London" gimmick?
I noticed on her page at WWE.com she's referred to as Layla and Layla El.
Outside of the wrestling ring, Layla, along with Beth Phoenix and Candice Michelle, appeared in the February 2009 issue of FLEX Magazine.
And I still say Layla is one of the prettiest WWE divas out there.
I just wish they'd get her some more training and get her in the ring more.
Yes I know if all the Divas actually wrestled each week they wouldn't have time for anything else.
Or the WWE would have to create another show just for all the divas, kinda like "WWE GLOW".
Which I would have no problem with......

WWE Diva Candice Michelle, Face or Heel?
WWE Diva Candice Michelle, Face or Heel?
After injuring her shoulder in 2008, then re-injuring again when she tried to return to the ring, WWE Diva Candice Michelle hasn't seen a lot of ring time.
And now that's she's back in the ring at mainly house shows, you have to wonder if the WWE writing staff really knows what to do with her.
There was talk of a possible heel turn awhile back, but that remains to be seen.
And there was also talk of Candice putting on a few pounds and looking kinda outta shape.
But I don't see any evidence of that in any photos I've seen.
So will she be drafted to SmackDown! or stay on Raw.
I'm gonna say she'll stay on the Raw flagship.
I also think a heel turn might be likely.
But Candice, even without a lot of ring time on TV, is still one of the (if not the) most recognizable WWE Divas to the general public.
So a heel turn might not be a good idea as far as image goes.
Then again, when Mickie James was a heel, everyone loved her.
The WWE's bottom line is.... which is gonna sell more tickets, Candice as a heel or face?
Personally, I think Candice as a heel is great.
And can you imagine the heat a Candice Michelle / Maryse tag team would get?

Survivor Series: Raw Divas vs. SmackDown Divas
Survivor Series: Raw Divas vs. SmackDown Divas
Last Night the Raw Divas faced the Smackdown Divas in a Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match.
I thought it was a solid event, but the fans there didn't seem to think so.
I mean really, you had 3 women in there that can barely wrestle. You work with what you have.
Low point...Victoria getting eliminated first.
Aww come on! (Yes I was angry about that.)
High points...Natalya locking the Sharpshooter on Candice Michelle and Candice tapping out to a figure four by Maryse.
Stop!
A figure four leglock by Maryse?
Anyway it was down to Maryse and Beth, and Beth put it to bed with a Glam Slam that took out Maryse.
Let me confess, I really don't hold Maryse in high regard as a wrestler, but she made a good effort.
So the winners were the Raw Divas led by WWE Women's Wrestling Champion Beth Phoenix.
Now....what about a WWE Raw Divas versus TNA Knockouts match....?

WWE Divas Survivor Series match
Beth Phoenix, Mickie James, Kelly Kelly, Jillian Hall and Candice Michelle will take on Victoria, Michelle McCool, Natalya Neidhart, Maryse and Maria in a Survivor Series match.
Well now we might get to see some dream face offs.
Maybe Victoria and Beth Phoenix will finally go at it.
Just based on raw wrestling ability, the RAW and Smackdown sides seem fairly evenly balanced.
On the Raw side you have Beth Phoenix, Mickie James and Jillian Hall that can really wrestle.
And on the Smackdown side you have Victoria and Natalya Neidhart.
Of course I imagine the dream match up will be WWE Women's Champion Beth Phoenix in the ring with WWE Divas Champion Michelle McCool.
I'm just glad this will be a real match and not a pillow fight or Super Soaker match.

The WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 Divas
Here are all the WWE Divas that are in the new WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009 video game....
From WWE Raw: Ashley, Beth Phoenix, Candice, Jillian, Kelly Kelly, Layla, Melina and Mickie James
And from WWE SmackDown: Maria, Michelle McCool and Victoria
And your standard non-playable characters: Lilian Garcia and Stephanie McMahon.
I thought including Ashley was unusual, but maybe at the time the game was being developed she was still on the roster.
Or maybe she was included because she's still very popular.
And who knows, one day we may get a WWE game that has a "Women's Wrestling Legends" section.
I would think though that it would be a bit too soon to include Moolah and Sherri Martel.
But imagine having Mad Maxine, Wendi Richter, Debbie Combs, Leilani Kai, Missy Hyatt, Rockin' Robin, Heidi Lee Morgan, Alundra Blayze, Tammy Lynn Sytch, Luna Vachon and Tori as unlockable characters.
But I guess that would be a whole different game huh?
Maybe "WWE SmackDown vs. Raw: Divas Edition" ?

WWE Diva Candice Michelle fights back
Evidently WWE Diva Candice Michelle has heard about all the criticism about her in ring performance since her return.
But instead of getting all defensive about it, the former WWE Women's Wrestling Champion has vowed she will train harder and inprove her skills.
One, we know she can do it. Remember how much better she became in ring just before she won the title? The lady really does work to improve her ability.
Two, it's nice to see someone not get hurt and defensive over comments, but turn around and say "You know they may be right...I'll work harder."
Candice has a lot of potential. She really could be the next Trish Stratus.

WWE Diva Updates: Candice Michelle, Beth Phoenix and more
Lots of updates today....

WWE Diva Candice Michelle turned 30 on Tuesday
Happy Late Birthday Candice!
Beth Phoenix showed up with WWE Intercontinental Champion Santino Marella on WWE RAW Monday Night.

Jamie Noble and Mickie James wrestled Paul Burchill and Katie Lea.
Jamie and Mickie won.
Mixed Tag Team matches are getting popular in the WWE it seems.
Candice and Kelly wrestled Beth Phoenix and Jillian Hall.
Beth and Jillian won, with Beth pinning Kelly.

Layla appeared alongside William Regal.
So all in all, a pretty active Monday night for the WWE Divas.

Last Night on WWE RAW, Jillian Hall and Candice Michelle
Last Night on WWE RAW, Jillian Hall and Candice Michelle
Candice Michelle took on Jillian Hall last night in what I hate to say was a very lackluster wrestling match.
I hate to say lackluster because Candice versus Beth Phoenix is the women's event at WWE No Mercy.
Candice still doesn't look 100 percent, although she did win.
I know most wrestling writers and bloggers don't take the womens wrestling divisions seriously. But as you can see from the number of blogs I do, I take it seriously. I dont want to see the Women's Wrestling title match become a snooze fest or a squash.
Candice is trying and I respect that. But maybe they should have held back on her a bit and let her get the ring rust off before throwing her back with a title shot.
I personally think Mickie James versus Beth would have been a better match for No Mercy.
I still do wish Candice luck though.
